1. Share a time when you got extremely filthy or dirty. How did that feel? What did you do to get clean? How did it feel to get clean?
2. Looking at Isaiah 1:2–6 and Jeremiah 17:9, what do these passages say about the human condition? How does this challenge our culture’s common belief that people are “basically good”?
3. How have you personally seen the effects of sin distort or corrupt good things in our world?
4.Romans 7:18–25 describes Paul’s struggle. Can you relate to his words? Why do you think he ends with thanksgiving?
5. In Jeremiah 23:5–6, God promises to raise up a “righteous Branch”. Why was it necessary for God Himself to provide righteousness instead of expecting people to achieve it?
6. Read 2 Corinthians 5:21. What does “the Great Exchange” mean to you personally?
7. Isaiah 61:10 describes being clothed in garments of salvation and robes of righteousness. What does it feel like to imagine yourself “wearing” Christ’s righteousness?
8. How can knowing that “there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 8:1) change the way you approach your daily struggles or failures?
9. Pray for one another’s needs and for others who need Christ.
