1. The Name of the Lord
  • Proverbs 18:10 says, “The name of the LORD [Jehovah/Yahweh] is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe.”
    • What does it mean to “run into” the LORD’S name for safety?
    • How do you personally turn to God for protection or strength?
2. Israel’s History and Context
  • Israel chose Saul as king because he “looked the part,” but David was chosen because he was a man after God’s own heart.
    • Why do you think God values the heart over outward appearance or ability?
    • How does that challenge the way we view leaders today—or even ourselves?
3. David and Goliath – A Spiritual Battle
  • In 1 Samuel 17, David saw Goliath not just as a physical enemy, but as a spiritual threat against God’s people.
    • What made David’s perspective different from Saul and the army?
    • What “giants” do you face today that might look overwhelming from a human perspective?
4. Jehovah Sabaoth – The Lord of Hosts
  • David declared, “I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts [Jehovah Sabaoth], the God of the armies of Israel” (1 Sam. 17:45).
    • What does this reveal about where his confidence came from?
    • How can remembering God as “Jehovah Sabaoth” strengthen your faith in times of fear or opposition?
5. The God Who Fights for Us
  • Exodus 14:14 says, “The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
    • What does it mean to “be still” when facing a battle?
    • Can you share a time when you saw God fight for you or deliver you in a way you couldn’t on your own?
6. Victory Through the Cross
  • Colossians 2:15 says Jesus disarmed spiritual powers and triumphed through the cross.
    • How does Christ’s victory at the cross give us confidence against the world, the flesh, and the devil?
    • What might it look like for you this week to “resist” the enemy and “rejoice” in Christ’s victory?
7. Worship as Warfare
  • Isaiah 42:10-13 pictures the LORD [Jehovah] as a warrior and calls His people to sing a new song of praise.
    • Why do you think worship and praise are connected to spiritual victory?
    • How could praise be a practical weapon in your life when you feel attacked, discouraged, or afraid?
8. Personal Application
  • What is one “battle” you are currently facing where you need to trust Jehovah Sabaoth to fight for you?
  • As a group, how can we encourage and pray for one another to stand strong in God’s strength, like David did?
8. Prayer
End by praying for your FRANCES (Friends, Relatives, Acquaintances, Neighbors, Co-workers, Enemies, Strangers) to encounter the Savior who triumphed for them through the cross.
