Day 28 - Learning to Follow

John 16:13–14 (NLT)

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me.

1 Corinthians 14:40 (NLT)

But be sure that everything is done properly and in order.

Following Jesus requires more than good intentions.

We need the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus promised that the Spirit of truth would guide His followers into truth and bring glory to Him.

That last part matters.

The Holy Spirit doesn't draw attention away from Jesus.

He points us toward Him.

And when we believe God is leading us, we should remain grounded in Scripture, humility, and wisdom.

Paul also reminds the church that things should be done properly and in order.

Being sensitive to the Spirit and exercising wisdom aren't opposing ideas.

They belong together.

A mature spiritual life learns to remain both responsive and grounded.

Heart Check
  1. Am I genuinely seeking the Holy Spirit's guidance or simply asking God to approve my plans?
  2. How can I grow in discernment and humility?

A Moment With Jesus
Holy Spirit, guide me into truth. Help me recognize what honors Jesus and give me wisdom to follow faithfully. Amen.

Live It Out: Before making an important decision, pause to pray and consider what Scripture teaches.
